I know the only major concern of an electric scooter owner is their battery stays safe and lasts longer without any issues because the only precious thing in an electric vehicle is a battery. So, considering that I have written 5 tips that can help your scooter battery to last longer.
Before we straight jump into the tips let’s understand the technical aspect of the battery. Most e-scooters feature lithium-ion batteries, these low-weight rechargeable batteries are incredibly high-powered and are often used in the military and aerospace industry.
However, they aren’t indestructible so we recommend treating your battery like the powerful and intricate piece of technology it is.
5 Ways to Make Your Electric Scooter Battery Last Longer
Whatever tips I’m going to give that all comes from my personal experience and what I have asked from salespersons of the e-scooter companies.
1. Don’t Drain Your Scooter Battery
This is the most important tip: try not to fully deplete your battery as you have heard this from many geeky people. If you drain out the battery every time it reduces the battery’s health. This is a universal tip that is applicable to every battery product. I will not go into a technical explanation as many of our readers are normal day-to-day users.
I recommend you to keep your e-scooter battery % above 30.
2. Correct E-Scooter Charger
Electric scooter charging port comes in all shapes and sizes. Unfortunately, there’s no one size that fits to all when it comes to chargers. Each e-scooter battery will only be fully compatible with its recognised charger or a third-party charger made for it.
If your e-scooter charger is lost or damaged, I understand that can be tempting to use any charger that fits. However, this can be harmful to your battery and even if the charger appears to be working, it could be charging the battery improperly.
3. E-Scooter Battery Temperature
If you’re using an electric scooter in extreme weather conditions the battery will surely suffer. Hot temperatures will cause your battery to struggle especially when charging so always charge in a cool ventilated area and cold temperatures will definitely reduce the capacity of your battery. Thus, the range of your e-scooter.
I also recommend charging your e-scooter in an ambient room temperature. If you’re using your electric scooter in the Arctic Circle then there’s not much you can do about this. But it’s still worth bearing in mind if you live in a colder environment it will be worth charging you’re e-scooter in the house.
Do read the manual for further details on the best conditions for charging your battery.
4. Charge your Battery When it’s Cool
It’s best to charge your e-scooter promptly but don’t forget to give the battery some time to cool down first.
Now there’s a question that might be coming to your mind how long to leave your battery to cool so my answer is there is no exact science but as a general rule of thumb, if you have ridden your e-scooter before then leave it for 15 minutes to cool down battery.
5. Your charger will tell you not the display
Charging your e-scooter always goes off when the charger says it’s full not the display on the scooter itself. Electric scooter charger battery fairly charges up quickly to 80% but right charger looks after the battery by not overcharging this means rate of charging slows down once you’re over 80% even though your e-scooter display may be it’s full or nearly full but that last 20% can take little longer. So, always go off the charger says the battery is full and not the display.
Conclusion
In conclusion, always treat your battery well and in return, it will do the same. If you stress your battery, it will underperform and you will definitely not gonna enjoy your ride.
We all know in real life it’s pretty hard to follow these tips but if you can make these tips part of your routine then your scooter battery will last longer.
