Segway SuperScooter GT2: It was launched for $4000, but currently, it’s priced at $2500. Yes, I know I’m two years late. But it’s never too late to review any scooter until it gets discontinued 😝. I will share my experiences and opinions on having this super scooter in 2024. What does it feel like? Should you consider buying it in 2024? What are the pros and cons and all.
But before starting let’s look at the specs sheet, and what the company is claiming so, it would be easy for us to judge the scooter later on.

What I Liked about this SuperScooter GT2
- Futuristic display.
- The scooter’s design is so premium and the build quality is amazing.
- The customisations that we got in this scooter via the mobile app are cool.
- The look and feel is aesthetically pleasing.
- You can do cool stuffs like burnout.
- Traction control system
- The deck size is big enough to put the legs comfortably.
- Powerful acceleration
- Regen braking System
- It doesn’t create loud sounds at all despite having a dual-powerful motor.
- Rear Ambient lights with 11 lighting modes.
- Dual charging ports. It can help in speed up the charging time but I feel rather than giving 2 ports and 2 chargers they could have bundled in one.
- Walk Mode
- Cruise Control
- Under race mode, you get the Boost option.
- Set speed limit
- Set charging limit
- Anti-puncture Self-healing tires
These are the main stuffs that I liked in this scooter which I really wanted to highlight at the beginning of this review generally you find these things in every scooter, below I have elaborated all the features and shared my experiences.
Top Speed
There you get 5 modes: walk, eco, sport, Race, Race + boost and park.
I have noticed Segway GT2 shows a top speed of more than 43MPH, on one of the rides I got a top speed of 46MPH.
Single Motor
- Eco – 22 MPH
- Sport – 37 MPH
- Race – 38MPH
Dual Motor
- Eco – 23 MPH
- Sport – 41 MPH
- Race + Boost – 43MPH
Acceleration Time Test
Segway claims you can achieve 30MPH in just 3.3 secs but is it true? Let’s find out
Notice
Your acceleration time may vary from mine, as it depends on the road conditions, rider’s weight and battery %.
Readings are from the dual motor in Race + Boost mode.
- 0-10 MPH 1.15 SEC
- 0-20 MPH 2.10 SEC
- 0-30 MPH 3.22 SEC
- 0-43 MPH 8.00 SEC
These readings are from the dual motor without boost mode.
- 0-10 MPH 2.00 SEC
- 0-20 MPH 3.03 SEC
- 0-30 MPH 4.23 SEC
- 0-40 MPH 7.76 SEC
Hill Test
20% tilt and 30° all are just peanuts for this scooter and the path shown in the video I guess is around 45° and you can see how smoothly it went up. but here you need to look at a few things.
Climbing incline paths with the single motor in ECO mode will not give you success. The recommended mode is to turn on the AWD with anything above Eco would work. Hills are not the problem for this scooter.
Hill Test – Passed ✅
Range
Rider’s weight = 210 lbs (95 kg)
Total climb = 460m (1510 ft)
Average speed = 25MPH
I got 25 miles of range (approx).
In my opinion, this scooter has a pretty decent range, if you’re the one who thinks the company has claimed 56 miles of range you will get it. Of course, you can get it when you ride the scooter in ECO mode. But the truth is everyone is going to ride on 2AWD sport mode at least and there will be some inclines also.
The practical range that you would get would be around 35 miles (approx) or you can use our E-Bike Range Calculator that works flawlessly and get an idea for your scooter.
To achieve 50 miles of range you need to avoid a few things:
- Inclines
- Higher body weight
- Lower speed (ECO mode recommended)
Braking
Front and rear hydraulic disc brakes are smooth and comfortable. It does work well in emergency situations. One more great thing is it does have Energy Recovery (regen braking system). It is also known as KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System).
How does it work in GT2?
Segway GT2 converts some of the kinetic energy into electrical energy when the brake is pressed or the throttle is twisted.
Here are some data that has been shared by one of the Reddit users:
Key Takeaways:
- Range Increase via Energy Recovery Enabled: 12-14%
- Range Increase via Increased PSI (42 PSI vs. 32 PSI): 9-10%
- Range Increase via Energy Recovery Enabled & Increased PSI: 20%
You can read everything in detail -> KERS report shared by Ruskityoma
Charging
It comes with 2 chargers out of the box which is 57.8V=2.0 A, you get both American and international plugs. Charging a 30amp-hour battery pack from empty to full at 2 amps would take 15 hours but since we get dual charging ports it only takes 7 hours.
I really like the charger you can mess it up while putting it in charge. Once you get 30% battery charge left, boos mode stops working, nothing new this happens in every scooter.
Suspension
We get double wishbone suspension with a coil hydraulic shock and an adjustable rebound knob. Double wishbone suspension is the kind of suspension you see on a high-performance sports car. Of course, you get the same hydraulic coil shock in the rear.
I love the front and rear suspension because both are adjustable. You can tune it according to your liking.
App and Customisations
The app has an immense number of features and customization options. You can turn off and ON the scooter directly from the app. If you wanna do burn out you can turn off the brake sensor. You get plenty of “Light effects” where you can adjust the display brightness, set ambient lighting (which basically changes the rear light), Regen braking, speed limit, charging limit and much more.
Cockpit
Firstly we see the transparent display which is cool in itself, the turning indicator, the drive wheel knob which does multi-tasking, horn switch, on the right-hand side of the cockpit you will get to see the power button, mode knob, and cruise control and much more features.
Display
This scooter has a futuristic screen, it’s a transparent PM-OLED display. As you can see in the image my hands are visible and you can see the data on the screen clearly as well. The display is bright enough that you won’t feel any issues while riding during the day but yes, if the sun is brighter than usual it fades but completely vanish.
Tires
It has street-slick tires and it’s not made for off-roading because it doesn’t have 14-inch treaded off-road tires but this beast can handle it easily.
Deck
The deck size is long and wide enough that riders can put both legs comfortably the way they want plus the rubber mat helps to make the grip on the scooter while riding. Mainly on scooters I always tensed about the deck size, will it be comfortable while riding but in GT2 it’s 10 on 10.
Headlight
This scooter has 2 lights: a daytime running light and a headlight that is pretty bright at night. Yes, it does help in the night rides. After all, it has 900 lumens LED lights. It’s not super bright but bright enough that the car driver can easily see you.
What I Hate About this Scooter
Why it’s one of my favourite electric scooters because it has literally a few things that annoy me, here I have listed below:
Portability
That’s obvious it’s a super scooter, it would be heavy, 116 lbs so it is not easy to take it anywhere you want you need to have some sort of pickup truck or van or something like that with a ramp they can actually push it.
Park Mode
The scooter automatically goes into park mode if you don’t move your scooter for 5 secs. I can understand that the company has done it for safety purposes, but it annoys me while riding it regularly.
Display
Although the display works really good in outdoors but when it’s too sunny or the sun is just above you, the display won’t be able to show the data. That’s the demerit of having a cool futuristic display.
Horn (Subjective)
The horn sound is a bit low, especially in traffic, and it will hardly be hearable to others. The horn could have been loud.
Ability to Lock
This is the only major drawback that I felt in this scooter. There is no space to put the lock on it, from the handlebar to the front stem to the deck. Yes, the scooter does have a digital lock but that’s not enough to hold the scooter in public, you need to secure it with a physical lock also.
No Space for Mouting Phone
The handlebar isn’t cylindrical so it’s hard to get a phone mount. It’s a little downside for me because I do riding sometime I do need to look at my phone for maps.
These are the only cons and TBH none of them are deal-breaking except locking one that depends on the user’s use case scenario. I have seen many reviewers just added some useless things in the cons section but trust me you gonna love this scooter.
Differences Between the Segway GT1 and GT2
GT1 is available for $1500, you might see the difference between both scooters of just $1000 bucks as of now but there are some massive differences like you get a bigger battery in GT2 plus a powerful motor along with AWD with a max speed of 43 MPH.
After using GT2, I can’t recommend anybody to buy GT1. I think nobody should ask this question GT1 or GT2. Yes, if GT2 was available for $4k and GT1 for $1.5k then you can buy it.
Final Thoughts on Scooter & Ride Quality
I have become a fan of the Segway superscooter GT2 after using it for a year or so. Hill climbing ability is also fantastic. It is smooth and comfortable while riding. It’s the smoothest out of any commuter scooter I’ve tried.
As the name suggests “SuperScooter” what else do you expect from this machine. If this wasn’t a good product, the company would have launched another generation of super scooters with upgrades but it’s been 3 years and it’s so futuristic and perfect that the company doesn’t need to launch the new model.
Well, that is it from my side, I can’t force you to buy but as it’s available for $2500 you should definitely consider it. I tried my best to stay unbiased and write a genuinely practical review not like others that they have to fulfil the cons section so write anything up.
If this was available for $4000 then I would not have recommended it but after the price drop, it’s now justifiable.
Few things to keep in mind:
Once the battery reaches 30% you will be shifted to sports mode. It’s really nice for street riding. I give this scooter an A++ from my side. It’s so fun to ride, an awesome scooter.
I feel Gt2 is perfect for stunts, you can do burnouts, throttle plus braking at the same time, insanely stable at high speed, currently none of the scooter is as stable as GT2
Thank you for reading this out! I hope this review article genuinely helped you in making decision.
